Developmentally Appropriate Practices - Teaching With Technology in Early Childhood

When children come to school to kindergarten, they will find a wide range of computer skills. Some problems will only have a free computer at work, some never seen a computer and some can start the Internet and search for their favorite "dot com" website have used!

Kindergarten is the ideal age to teach children how to draw a mouse to manipulate and improve eye / hand coordination through. In many cases, students benefit fromHear a story and then to extend the history by a response by drawing on the computer and type a few words.

Starting to find typing skills at this age simply the letters are capitalized to learn how and ends to add punctuation.

In thinking about pulling with young children with the computer, it is crucial to keep developmentally appropriate practices in mind. For example, if you have a child to draw a "Hand Turkey" on the screen would be then sure that hemade previously by a tracing and coloring around his hand, Gage on their experiences with the first call. If there are children who appear to have have not had that experience, then back off and make the concrete model. If you ask a child to do this electronically, I find that the best way to have to keep him, his non-dominant hand on the screen while using his other to the draw with the mouse.

Another developmentally appropriate practice, including practice. During the firstInteraction, give support and help the child, and then when she returns for the next computer class or independent work time, then it can create the project without assistance. One example is in trying to draw overlapping circles to make a snowman. Show them how to keep their hands on the mouse as they try, and then they can try out in peace. The skeleton of the computer lessons in this way children will find success. I often find that competed in the granting free choice when they have timea task, the children decide, a project we've ever done again.

Some of my favorite projects with kindergarten with drawing characters from literature, their families, snowmen, penguins and constellations. I have often Projects print in color and attach the construction paper to make each piece seem special.
